Recreation around Jachthaven Friese Hoek
There is much to be enjoyed in Lemmer and the surrounding areas, such as the Ir. D.F. Woudagemaal. The largest steam-pumping station ever built, which opened in 1920 and is still occasionally in operation today, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list since 1998. Just as impressive as the steam power technology is the stunning architecture based on the Amsterdamse School style. In 2011, the new visitor centre, De Dageraad, opened its doors to the public to allow visitors to get more closely acquainted with all of the fascinating aspects of the Woudagemaal. The pumping station itself can only be toured with a guide.
However, The Orchideeën Hoeve (The Orchid Farm) in Luttelgeest is definitely worth visiting! In short, a fun and surprising day out for all the family.
